Kanguva box office Day 9: Suriya’s film on a sorry run, no hope left

Suriya’s epic fantasy action drama, Kanguva, failed to impress the audience. The film entered its second weekend on Friday, November 22, with dismal numbers at the box office. Kanguva collected a mere Rs 61 lakh on its second Friday, taking the total of nine days to Rs 64.91 crore nett in India, reported the trade website Sacnilk.
Directed by Siva, the film is now showing an almost wiped-off performance at the ticket window. Its failure to reach the benchmark of Rs 100 crore nett is another disappointing news. Kanguva opened with negative reviews, with special criticism for its loud music. However, it was still expected to at least hit Rs 100 crore in its lifetime run. Considering the traction now, or lack of it, all hopes for the film to achieve that feat seems baseless at this point.
Kanguva was made on a huge budget, with a lot spent on its marketing campaign. The film was released amid a huge craze, especially among Suriya’s fans. However, nothing could save it. While the drop in collections was visible in the opening weekend itself, the hopes for redemption were still there. Not after its second weekend now!
Had it worked even slightly better at the box office, it would have enjoyed a smooth run in the absence of any big release until December 5. That’s when Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule is going to hit the screens with a blockbuster opening guaranteed.
